Frank has over 33 years’ experience in the financial markets, 30 of which have been in Asia. Based either in Tokyo or in Hong Kong, he has worked in investment banking and fund raising. During the last 12 years in Japan he has been marketing hedge funds and private equity funds and structuring direct investments into private companies and real estate.
Prior to setting up this firm Frank was Head of Alternative Investments for North Asia at HSBC responsible for fund marketing in Japan and Korea. During the 1990s, he led award winning investment banking teams in Japan and Hong Kong for Bankers Trust and Bank of America that handled financings across the Asia-Pacific region. In the 1980s Frank worked for Drexel Burnham Lambert in Tokyo.
Frank is an American citizen, born and raised in Tokyo, and a permanent resident of Japan. He was educated primarily in the USA, is a Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst and holds a BA from Princeton University.
Mr. Yoshimi is responsible for managing fund distribution and the firm’s relationships with regulators. He is a specialist in marketing funds and advising pensions, an experienced client relations and marketing officer focused on Japanese pension plans and institutional investors. He has over 15 years’ experience in this role, and before that had practical investment management experience.
He started his career at Nomura Securities, where he worked with international investments and domestic marketing and worked at several locations within Japan and in the United States. He moved into asset management at Chase Trust Bank, where he was a portfolio manager, and Barclays Nikko Asset Management, where he was the head of pension marketing. Since then he has held pension marketing positions at international and Japanese asset management firms.
He is a Japanese native, raised in Japan, educated at Keio University. He holds securities marketing registrations in the United States and Japan. He speaks fluent Japanese and English.
Mr. Kuroda handles Japanese equity research and the distribution of hedge funds to institutional investors. He has extensive experience of institutional equity sales in Europe and was based in Frankfurt, Germany, for 17 years.
Mr. Kuroda began his career in domestic equity sales at New Japan Securities in Tokyo and then in Frankfurt. Later he moved to Nomura Securities and Deutsche Bank in Frankfurt. Prior to joining TAP Japan Mr. Kuroda spent two years working for Deutsche Securities in Tokyo as the Director of Client Strategy with responsibility for sales planning and corporate IR activities. In Germany he was responsible for covering continental and UK institutional investors. With several hedge funds as clients, he developed a strong understanding of this sector.
He is a Japanese native, raised in Japan, and educated at Tohoku University. He speaks fluent Japanese and English.
Scott handles M&A advisory transactions. He has worked in investment banking as an equity research analyst for more than 25 years, covering electronics, engineering, renewable energy and other sectors at Merrill Lynch, Lehman Brothers and major European investment banks in Japan and Korea.
Outside the securities industry, he is a member of the Advisory Board of the Future in Review (FiRe) conference organized by the Strategic News Service, for which he also writes on topics related to Japan and Asia. Scott is registered with the Japan Securities Dealers Association as a class-1 sales representative. He holds a BA from Stanford University and an MA from The Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies in Washington, D.C.

Hiroki handles fund marketing and consulting. From 2007 until 2015 he held senior executive positions as Head of Japanese Equities at both State Street as well as BNY Mellon. He understands all aspects of hedge funds from his roles in sales trading, prime brokerage services, and sales to institutional investors while at Deutsche Securities and Credit Suisse First Boston. He has broad institutional fund marketing experience and also understands the Japanese asset management industry and pension fund marketing from working in the asset management division at Shinsei Bank.
He is an American citizen with native level language skills in Japanese and English, and an established leadership track record both in business and in the United States Army. Hiroki graduated from the United States Military Academy (West Point) with a B.S. in Engineering and served eight years in US Army Special Operations, finishing as Major. He obtained his MBA from Georgetown University, and he holds a Japan Securities Dealer Association Type 1 Registration.
Ken Curtis focuses on cross-border investments. For 30 years he has been based in Japan and handling real estate fund management, private equity investment, and commercial aircraft finance. During his career he has developed a broad network of investor contacts in Asia and Europe with extensive knowledge of real estate and venture financing.
Prior to joining TAP Japan in 2014, Ken managed for seven years the MGPA Japan Core Plus Fund, a private equity real estate fund in partnership with institutional investors. Previous to that role, he established and managed MEC International, a private equity firm in Tokyo that advised on investments in real estate and technology ventures. In the early 1990s, Ken established the operations in Japan for Secured Capital. In the 1980s he managed GATX Japan, the joint venture company between GATX Capital Corporation in the United States and Kanematsu Corporation, a leading Japanese trading company.
Ken holds a B.A. from Colby College, and an MBA from the University of North Carolina. An American citizen and a permanent resident of Japan, he speaks fluent Japanese.
